K & 1st Grade: We talked about how our bodies feel when we are upset and what we can do to calm down or cope(we can handle it). Students watched a clip about being mad and how to cope. After watching we talked about how is body felt and how he looked when he was made. Then discussed what he did and what they can do to make sure they don't have a meltdown. https:www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO0KYi5HgGk Students had the chance to choose 3 strategies and complete a Don't have a meltdown coping strategies w.s. 2nd Grade: Students watched a clip: Zach & Telly, Anxious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDFEW3eAllg and then colored and practiced using our coping strategy of breathing while using our finger labyrinth. 3rd Grade: We watched Newsbreak: Kids and Stress https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYFofKgBHxU Students then had a chance to choose coping strategies and glue them to their snowman to help in times of stress. 4th- Watched Don't Flip Your LId: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bKuoH8CkFc Students then chose coping strategies to cut and glue to don't flip your lid sheet to remind themselves of strategies they can use instead of flipping their lid. 5th- Students participated in a SMIRK activity. Students made two lines facing each other. Two students on the end walked down the middle trying not to "smirk" while students in each line said funny jokes and made funny faces trying to make the student from the other line laugh. This was to represent peer pressure and we then talked about what coping strategies they used to keep from laughing. Self talk, ignoring, focusing on something else in the room.
