In kindergarten & 1st Grade we talked about feelings using the book: Cloud's best worst Day Ever. After listening to the book we talked about times we feel sad or angry and what we can do to help us get back to happy and glad. This is a great book that explores feelings and that it is okay to have feelings. However, It is not okay to be mean when we feel sad or mad. Students shared their great coping strategies they use when having these feelings. Taking deep breaths, taking a nap, talking to someone, drawing or exercising to name a few. The feelings ranged from happy to calm or sad and lonely. I highlighted that we all have feelings and it is good to share them with the people around us. We then talked about all the great things students are doing to help themselves feel better. It ranged from playing outside, taking a nap, eating their favorite meal or watching a fun tv program. Keep doing those things that make you happy!! In 3rd-5th Grade we processed leaving in March to stay home with the Now & Then lesson. Then we talked about where we are now and how to continue to move forward from here with the Now & Beyond lesson. Students were free to share their feelings about learning from home as well as the one thing that has been the hardest. This has been a great safe platform for kids to talk about what is going on in their world that is challenging as well as great!! I have enjoyed connecting with all of the kids. I encourage families to continue to have these conversations at home and work through any feelings. Also students shared the great things they are doing to take care of themselves during these different times.
