Students have been exploring emotions and how they feel in their bodies so that they can identify what we are feeling. Students also listed things that are out of their window of tolerance and hard for them to handle. Followed up by listing ACT coping strategies they can use to handle BIG EMOTIONS. Below is also a video explaining why we lose control. When students become more aware of their feelings and have strategies ready to handle them they can remain in the green more often allowing them to use their problem solving brain:)

Students have been learning about all emotions. We learned about BIG EMOTIONS and then talked about what to do when those BIG EMOTIONS such as sad, mad, frustration or disappointment when they come along. It is okay to have those feelings, IT IS NOT OKAY to be mean or unsafe when these feelings come along. Students practiced using coping strategies with the worksheet below and then chose the strategies they thought would work best for them. Continue to have students practice the variety of coping skills to use so the big emotions move through them and don't overtake them:) Click on the link to listen to the story and then talk about what Cloud can do if these big emotions come along. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xfJLrkDRYs Click on the link to listen to Sebastian's story about being able to handle different situations and emotions that come along. Have student's practice how to handle situations that are tough for them. The more prepared they are for situations and the feelings that come along with them the better they will get at handling these emotions.
