Kindergarten- Week of Oct. 21st: We read What Am I Feeling? Defining Emotions By: Kate Flanagan. After reading the book students practiced making the four feelings: Happy, Sad, Angry and Scared. While making the faces we talked about what our mouth, eyebrows and forehead do. Noticing how each part of our face changes as our emotions change. Week of Nov. 4th: We read I Can Handle It By: Laurie Wright. The main character in the book had to work through a lot of situations in the story. As I read the book the students helped the character with a lot of problem solving and repeating I Can Handle it, to let the character know he could handle whatever came his way. 1st Grade- Week of Oct. 21st: Mrs. Baker read a Basic Feelings Book: What am I feeling by Josh and Christi Straub and then followed the book with a Halloween feeling faces worksheets. Week of Nov. 4th: : Mrs. Baker read What Would Danny Do?: At School Choices and Consequences. The book walks students through situations and then the students choose what Danny should do as they read through the book. It gives great discussion about choices and consequences, positive and negative. 2nd Grade- Oct. 21st: Students walked through the size of the problem/size of the reaction powerpoint. The highlights are identifying the size of problems and working to regulate the body so that the reaction matches the size of the problem. We also talked about taking care of self with proper sleep, a healthy diet and limited screen time. This will help students to better manage their emotions. Week of Nov. 4th: Self Regulation: Desk Card Teaching Regulation Strategies:When something big happens I can keep my body calm Lazy 8 Breath Finger Touch Self- Talk Counting 1-10 3rd Grade Week of Oct. 28th: Students walked through the size of the problem/size of the reaction powerpoint. Showing students that when we first seek to understand others and then seek to be understood we are better able to regulate our bodies. Everyone has a different perspective. Week of Nov. 11th: Stress Powerpoint and Coping Fortune Tellers We explore what stress is and how students can cope and handle it. 5th Grade Week of Oct. 28th: We discussed perspective taking and how we view things can help us to regulate our bodies. We watched a few youtube perspective taking videos and did a few activities to demonstrate how we all have different perspectives based on past experiences and beliefs. We talked about seeking first to understand and then to be understood which helps us to better regulate our bodies.
